The Chainsmokers, as many reading may already be able to guess, have been dominating the music world for what seems like a lifetime. Their original track, “Closer” with Halsey is now reported to be in the No. 1 position on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for the eighth consecutive week in row. It is is the current top selling song, the most-streamed song and the most-heard track on the radio in the United States. At this point, we feel it’s safe to say that The Chainsmokers have fully entered the mainstream consciousness, and it doesn’t appear as though they’ll be slowing down any time soon.

“Closer” also lead the Digital Song Sales chart, with over 123,000 paid-for downloads during the first week of October, as well as the Streaming Songs Chart, earning 35.2 million U.S. streams. Finally, the track is leading the On-Demand Songs streaming survey for the ninth consecutive week and Radio Songs ranking for a second week.

The track is said to be the first to hold such a concrete domain over these categories since Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” released in November of 2014.

As the duo continues to bask in their success, The Weeknd‘s recent single “Starboy” with Daft Punk is slowly creeping up behind them, currently holding a No. 2 position on both the Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs charts and No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for the second week. Whether or not this track will dethrone The Chainsmokers remains to be seen, but one of our editors is convinced it will.
