In 2016, a new fall festival made its mark on the jam-packed New York City events calendar as, The Meadows Music and Arts Festival. Brought to us by the team at Founders Entertainment, who are also behind the coveted Governors Ball, this fall festival proved what it’s all about from its inaugural edition last year itself. From a packed lineup of artists from Kanye West to Kygo, coupled with a just as well curated food and beverage vendors and street artists from around Queens and the five boroughs, it all added up to a stunning debut. Even after The Weeknd was replaced by J. Cole at the last minute change and Kanye having to cut his set short due to a family emergency, all in all the first year of the festival garnered them great reviews and happy audiences.
In 2017, The Meadows is back and will be taking over the home of The Mets, Citi Field, once again this fall from September 15-17th. Yes, the success of last years edition has urged them to go from a two day format towards adding an additional day this year to “offer a little more of what we love to all of you” as their official website puts it.
Just today, the festival announced its stacked lineup of artists for this years edition. After an announcement by Gorillaz and the festival earlier last month, we were already hyped that they would be part of this years edition. Now to take that up a notch, The Meadows 2017 will be headlined by Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gorillaz! The eclectic line up also features Bassnectar, Future, Big Gigantic, Run the Jewels, Migos, A-Trak, M.I.A. and a ton more. With a claim of having over 60 artists spread over 4 stages in the span of 3 days, this lineup is sure promising of the good times to come! A rather brilliant mix of the best from the worlds of Hip-hop, pop and dance music, this lineup pretty much has something for all the music aficionados out there.
If last year’s edition is anything to go by, The Meadows was about a lot more than just the music. The art and culinary experience were given fair shares of importance and they did a commendable job on both fronts for sure. When it came to art, Lola Sherwood – The Festival art curator had hand-picked a team of local artists representing the best of New York and the region’s street art and graffiti! After the drool-worthy gastronomic delights at The Meadows ‘16, it showed that these guys definitely make sure to have their A-game on when it comes to the spread of food and beverage selections. This sure as hell has us excited about what to expect at this years edition!
Another extremely commendable initiative among many was, Sober Meadows. Honestly, we feel one doesn’t have to indulge in ANY kind of substances in order to enjoy music festivals and they seemed to echo that. As they the festival rightly says, “With all the amazing music, tons of activities, art installations, delicious food and more, there’s a ton of fun stuff to do. And for folks that like to enjoy life without indulging, there will be a sober group on-site where you can hang with like minded friends and enjoy the day.” Big ups to The Meadows on this one.
For those of you however who will have to give this wholesome experience of The Meadows Music and Arts Festival 2017 a miss, the festival will be streamed on currently Jay Z owned streaming service, Tidal.
Tickets are due to go on sale in just a couple of days, on May 10th at 12pm EST. More information can be found on the festival’s official website here.
