Erick Morillo Explores the Darker Side of Melody on ‘Fifth Element’

Step right up and walk this way toward the darker recesses of the dance floor. Erick Morillo awaits with a bag full of melodic house grooves to send tingles up your spine and inject a little mystery into your late-night adventure. The iconic producer and DJ has been one of house music’s funkiest constants for about 27 years, and today, he takes a new turn toward progressive moods on “Fifth Element.”

“For a long time, I have been wanting to produce a melodic record with an orchestral build,” Morillo is quoted in a press release. “I love the energy I was able to create with the percussions, and I am really looking forward to seeing the reaction to this record as my dance floors have been on fire these last couple of months.”

The latest tune breaks a year of silence, following last summer’s jumpin’ rainforest-inspired jam “Cartagena” and his 2018 collaboration “Medication” with Jamie Jonesand Gene Farris. “Fifth Element” is alluring and enigmatic, and it’s out everywhere via Subliminal Records on Friday. You can hear him spinning it throughout Ibiza this summer, a full list of his dates below, or you can listen to “Fifth Element” a day ahead of schedule, exclusively on Billboard Dance.
